50 boats were registered in this tournament out of Shinnecock. The boats gathered just inside the inlet by the bridge for the start of the tournament at 8 a.m. All fish caught considered to be contenders were to be called or radioed in. Weight in was from 3:00 to 3:30 pm. After pulling up several 6 and 7 pounders, I hooked up with what always feels like the bottom. On the third hard tug, I felt the hook set and the line lifted as I said “this is a fish!”. I pulled it up slow and steady. We broke out the big net with excitement, as the boats near by started hollering “yeah!”, “whewwww!” seeing the fish held up in the boat. We decided it was time to head back with the scale breaking 11 pounds in the chop from the east wind that day. The hard work all season paid off and I took the win for almost $10,000. What a day!
