There were 87 boats registered in this tournament. We had an 8 a.m start by the jetty outside of Claudio’s. We took the long trip and headed straight for Montauk. The fog was pretty bad, so it was slow moving once we passed the light house. We had several fish but nothing top 3. I kept trying to cover more ground where the bite was and hooked into this 10.38 pounder. I knew this fish was top 3, so I decided to head back to the weigh in a little early with the fog. That was sketchy, with boats every 50 feet popping out left and right of my bow. We got back and I was in first place, knocking another local fisherman out by only a few ounces. Around 3:20 pm I felt the pressure of a few boats not being back pacing the scale and the clock. A few minutes later a couple of guys, one being Ken Westerfeld, walk up with a large fish in a cooler. They threw it on the scale with large grins and I was knocked out of 1st buy just over a pound. $12750 was the taking for that fish. I tipped my hat and took my $500 with my 2nd place plaque.
